"Blow Up The Outside World" was released as the third single from Down On The Upside in November 1996, following "Pretty Noose" and "Burden In My Hand". It appeared in the DOTU-era standard formats: two versions of the compact disc (one in a box with a poster) and one 7" in Europe, and one compact disc in Australia. It also appeared as a promo-only disc in the United States with an "edit" version of the single. The poster that is included with European disc #2 is an enlarged version of the band photo [JPG: 104,255 bytes] that is found on the cover of the June 1996 issue of RIP magazine. The 7" is on green vinyl, and is a limited, numbered edition of 5000. The "Blow Up The Oustide World" video was directed by Gerry Casale of Devo; stills and a video clip are available. The cover art for all versions of the single is drawn from a series of photographs by Catherine Chalmers. These photos were at one point considered for the Down On The Upside cover. The studio versions are available on Soundgarden's 1989 release Louder Than Love, and live versions are available on the 1990 home video Louder Than Live. A Splice Of Space Jam Written by Soundgarden "A Splice Of Space Jam" is another section of the jam session that ultimately produced the background music for the 1995 CD+, Alive In The Superunknown. The same jam session resulted in "Jerry Garcia's Finger," from the Songs From The Superunknown EP.
